Order Execution processes

LEX (Logistic EXperience) is an interface between internal Michelin supply chain and authorized external logistic partners. The application is based on an event driven and micro-service architecture to propose a catalog with set of API for a specific functionality.

The Order Execution API suite enables Michelin to digitally interface with its Third-Party Logistics (3PL) partners for the execution and monitoring of key supply chain operations. These APIs facilitate the exchange of instructions and confirmations for shipment, receiving, returns, inventory movements, and product data. The goal is to ensure real-time visibility, data integrity, and operational alignment across the extended logistics network.

Michelin > 3PL Processes

Load Order

Defines how goods should be grouped and loaded for transportation. This is the first step in organizing outbound logistics.

  • Michelin creates a load order grouping multiple shipment orders for a single truck or route.
  • The 3PL partner uses this to prepare the vehicle, optimize loading sequence, and ensure compliance with transport constraints (e.g., weight, stacking rules).

Shipment Order

Initiates the dispatch of goods from Michelin facilities to customers or other destinations.

  • Michelin sends a shipment order with delivery address, product list, and required delivery date.
  • The 3PL uses this to pick, pack, and ship the goods, ensuring traceability and timely delivery.

Return Order

Manages reverse logistics for goods being returned to Michelin.

  • A customer returns defective or excess products.
  • Michelin issues a return order specifying pickup location, reason code, and return destination.
  • The 3PL arranges collection and transport back to the designated facility.

Receiving Order

Coordinates the reception of goods at Michelin or 3PL-managed warehouses.

  • Michelin expects a delivery from a supplier or another site.
  • The receiving order includes expected quantities, packaging details, and inspection instructions.
  • The 3PL prepares the receiving dock and updates systems upon arrival.

Item Master

Provides standardized product data to ensure consistent handling and identification.

  • Michelin updates the item master with new SKUs, dimensions, weight, and storage conditions.
  • The 3PL uses this data to configure warehouse systems, validate shipments, and ensure proper storage.

3PL > Michelin Processes

Shipment Order Confirmation

Confirms that a shipment has been successfully dispatched by the 3PL.

  • After loading and departure, the 3PL sends a confirmation with actual shipped quantities, tracking number, and departure timestamp.
  • Michelin updates its systems and informs the customer.

Receiving Order Confirmation

Confirms that goods have been received at the destination.

  • Upon unloading, the 3PL confirms receipt, noting any discrepancies or damages.
  • Michelin reconciles expected vs. received quantities and triggers quality checks or claims if needed.
